Default Katatonia - Night Is The New Day

Eight albums into their musical journey, Katatonia bring us their latest effort, 'Night Is The New Day', an album that stands to sum up everything the band has been working towards to this day. The brilliant musicianship showcases elements of prog, doom, folk and incredibly melodic metal that leaves the listener with no doubt that the band put everything they had into this record.

After 2006's release, 'The Great Cold Distance', the band went through a long period of soul searching. They were faced with trying to better their most sucessful album to date, and had no intentions of simply copying the sound of that album to ensure sales. In the three years that followed, Katatonia took their time cultivating a truly stunning album that they can really be proud of.

The albums opening track, 'Forsaker' is a fantastic example of how the band seems to seamlessly move from one style of music to another, with the guitars switching back and forth between dream like melodies and crushing, pounding walls of sound.

The vocal work on the album is as beautiful as it is haunting, and works superbly well over any realm of music the instruments invade. Singer Jonas Renkse's lyrics of urban & emotional decay paint images in your mind that will stick with you and dare you to take a deeper look at both yourself, and those around you.

The new album, 'Night Is The New Day' is out on the the second of November.
